Dr. Miya Yoshida is a board-certified minimally invasive, robotic, and bariatric surgeon dedicated to helping patients achieve better health through advanced surgical techniques and compassionate, personalized care. With specialized expertise in general surgery, foregut surgery, and metabolic and bariatric surgery, she combines the latest technology with an individualized approach to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
Originally from San Francisco, California, Dr. Yoshida graduated with honors from the University of California, San Diego, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology with a minor in Japanese Studies. Before attending medical school, she participated in groundbreaking scientific research through collaborations with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), NASA, and SpaceX, contributing to innovative biomedical projects.
Dr. Yoshida earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Western University of Health Sciences, where she received multiple academic honors, scholarships, and professional achievement awards. She completed her General Surgery residency at the University of California, Irvine, where she was recognized with the prestigious Chairman's Award for Teaching during her chief residency. She then completed an Advanced Gastrointestinal, Minimally Invasive, and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at NYU Langone, further refining her expertise in complex gastrointestinal and weight loss procedures.
Her clinical practice focuses on robotic-assisted and advanced laparoscopic surgery, offering patients minimally invasive solutions that often result in less pain, smaller incisions, shorter recovery times, and faster returns to daily life. Dr. Yoshida has extensive experience treating a wide range of gastrointestinal and bariatric conditions, with particular interests in foregut surgery, hiatal hernia repair, anti-reflux procedures, gastric bypass surgery, sleeve gastrectomy, and single anastomosis duodenoileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S).
In addition to her surgical expertise, Dr. Yoshida is board-certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine, allowing her to provide comprehensive weight management solutions that include both surgical and medical weight loss options. She works closely with each patient throughout every stage of treatment, from the initial consultation and pre-operative preparation through long-term postoperative care, to support lasting health and successful outcomes.
Dr. Yoshida remains actively involved in advancing the field of surgery through research, education, and leadership. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to medical textbooks, and presented her research at national surgical conferences on topics ranging from minimally invasive surgery to bariatric and foregut procedures. She also participates in the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) at St. Joseph's Hospital, an Accredited Bariatric Surgery Center dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality.
